Christian Man Allegedly Beaten After Defending Women In Pakistan

by Stefan J. Bos, Worthy News Chief International Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, PAKISTAN (Worthy News) – A young Christian man was recovering from extensive injuries Saturday after he was allegedly attacked by a group of Muslims for intervening when Christian women were being harassed in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Christian representatives said.

The reported assault in Nasrat Colony, a neighborhood in the town of Ajnianwala in Punjab’s Sheikhupura District, has raised fresh concerns among local Christians about their security and the safety of women and girls, sources familiar with the case told Worthy News.

The injured man, identified by Christian representatives as Masih, reportedly confronted individuals who were allegedly harassing Christian women and asked them to stop.

“Rather than resolving the situation, the confrontation reportedly escalated when additional individuals became involved,” said Christian advocate Mushtaq Sardar Gill, founder of LEAD Ministries. “Community representatives allege that a large group participated in the assault,” he told Worthy News.

PHOTOS SHOW EXTENSIVE INJURIES

Photographs shared with Worthy News and reviewed by this news agency show Masih apparently receiving treatment in a hospital. He has extensive dark-red and purple bruising across his back, shoulders and upper chest, as well as visible injuries and swelling around his eyes and face.

The images appear consistent with significant physical trauma, although Worthy News could not independently establish from the photographs how the injuries were sustained or verify all circumstances surrounding the reported assault.

Christian community representatives said Masih required medical attention following the attack and that members of the community visited him and his family to express their support.

His family and supporters have called for protection and a thorough investigation amid concerns that they could face further intimidation.

WOMEN’S SAFETY CONCERNS

The incident has also caused unease among Christian families who fear that residents may become reluctant to intervene when women are harassed or to report alleged abuses because of possible retaliation.

The reported assault comes amid wider concerns about violence against women in Punjab, Pakistan’s most populous province. Police data showed more than 20,000 crimes against women were registered during the first half of 2026, an increase from the same period a year earlier.

Christian women and girls can face additional vulnerabilities. United Nations experts warned in April about continuing patterns of abduction, forced religious conversion and forced marriage involving girls and young women from Pakistan’s religious minorities, including Christians.

Community representatives urged law-enforcement authorities to respond promptly to allegations involving harassment, threats and violence and appealed for disputes to be resolved through the legal system rather than retaliation or further confrontation.

INVESTIGATION URGED

Pastor Imran Amanat of LEAD Ministries condemned the reported assault and called for a transparent investigation into what happened.

Amanat urged authorities to examine available evidence, interview witnesses and take appropriate legal action if the allegations are substantiated.

He stressed that Pakistan’s citizens should receive equal protection under the law regardless of their religious background and should have access to justice when reporting violence or intimidation.

LEAD Ministries, which advocates for persecuted Christians and other vulnerable communities, has documented cases involving alleged violence, discrimination, forced conversion and violations of minority rights in overwhelmingly Muslim Pakistan.

CHRISTIANS AWAIT ANSWERS

Worthy News was not immediately aware of a response from police or those accused of involvement in the latest attack.

For Masih and his family, supporters said the immediate priorities remained medical treatment, security and accountability as Christians in the area awaited clarification from authorities about the circumstances surrounding the violence.
